Chicago Coach & Carriage Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in Chicago , Illinois in 1898 to manufacture horse-drawn carriages . In 1905, Superintendent Charles Duer received permission to develop a car prototype . Series production began in 1907. The brand name was Duer . Sales were bad. Vehicle production ended in 1910.

Years later, the company sold vehicles from Owen Magnetic Motor Car Corporation .

The first model from 1907 was called Model A and was a high wheeler . The air-cooled two-cylinder engine had 101.6 mm bore , 101.6 mm stroke , 1647 cm³ displacement and 12 hp . It was mounted under the seat and propelled the rear axle via belts. The chassis had a wheelbase of 183 cm . The body was an open runabout with space for two people on a bench.

The model name did not change during the construction period, although the vehicles were further developed. In 1908 the engine was moved to the front between the front wheels. Before that there was a wrong grille . The wheelbase was lengthened to 193 cm.

In 1909 the wheelbase was 198 cm. In that year the bench was replaced by two individual seats. In the same year there was also a stronger variant. The bore had been increased to 114.3 mm, which resulted in a displacement of 2085 cm³ and 16 hp. This version had a shorter wheelbase of 188 cm and was not only available as a two-seater runabout, but also as a two-seater coupé .
