Barnes Motor Car Company , previously Anhut Motor Car Company , was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Senator John Anhut founded the Anhut Motor Car Company in October 1909. Its headquarters were in Detroit , Michigan . Detroit's Mayor Philip Breitmeyer was also involved. The first vehicle was ready to drive in the same month. Production began in late 1909. The brand name was Anhut . In February 1910, HC Barnes, who previously worked for Overland , got in. After initial success, Chatham Motor Car was taken over from Canada in 1910 . In the summer of 1910 Anhut got out to devote himself to his political career. Barnes took over the management. He reorganized the company by September 1910 and renamed it Barnes Motor Car Company . He had plans to market vehicles as Barnes . The bankruptcy in November 1910 prevented this. In January 1911, everything was sold to the Detroit- based Autoparts Company .

The only model was the Six . He had a six-cylinder engine from the Brownell Motor Company with 3784 cc displacement and 36 hp power. The vehicles had a chassis with a 279 cm wheelbase . A two-seater roadster , a four-seater roadster including an emergency seat and a four-seater toy tonneau were available.
