Mount Pleasant Motor Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Louis J. Lampke was from New Jersey . He developed an automobile. He couldn't find enough donors on the east coast of the United States . He moved to Mount Pleasant , Michigan . There he founded the company in 1915 with some business people. The share capital was low 5000 US dollars . The prototype was still called Mount Pleasant . In the same year, the series production of automobiles began. The brand name was MPM . This abbreviation was chosen after the company offered a $ 5 price for a short and catchy name. It was short for Mount Pleasant Michigan. By the end of the spring ten vehicles had been completed and sold. Then the money ran out. Lampke asked for a $ 10,000 increase. That was refused. Plans to move to Saginaw could no longer be implemented. Production ended. It stayed with the ten vehicles.

Lampke then founded the Saginaw Motor Car Company in Saginaw.

vehicles

The smaller model had a four-cylinder engine . The chassis had a wheelbase of 284 cm . The structure was a roadster with three seats. The original price was $ 1,085.

There was also a model with a V8 engine . It was specified with 44 hp . The wheelbase was slightly longer at an inch (2.54 cm). The open touring car offered space for five people. The price was $ 1,095, so it was hardly more expensive than the other model.
