Chelsea Manufacturing Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles from New Jersey .

Company history

The company was founded in Newark in 1914 . Automobile production began in the spring of the same year. The brand name was Chelsea . Plans totaled 500 vehicles annually. In September 1914 a vehicle was registered for a race. Production ended in 1914.

There was no connection to the Welch Motor Car Company of Michigan , originally as Chelsea Manufacturing Company was founded.

The only model was called a cyclecar , although it did not meet the criteria. A water-cooled four - cylinder engine with 12 HP power drove the rear axle via an ordinary gearbox and a cardan shaft . The chassis had a wheelbase of 259 cm and a track width of 142 cm . A roadster in the shape of a torpedo offered space for two people side by side.
