Smith was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Art Smith was a car enthusiast and driver . In the 1910s, he made some automobiles in San Francisco , California . The brand name was Smith , with Art Smith on the vehicles occasionally . The racing driver Harry Hartz wrote in Motor Age magazine on May 10, 1917 that Smith had manufactured the vehicles in the previous year, i.e. 1916. Another source gives the year 1911. A total of eight vehicles were built.

The vehicles were a mixture of cycle cars and small racing cars . You could get a street legal. According to California registrations, one vehicle was registered on Art Smith and another on Al Maggim.

One source claims they had a Harley-Davidson engine and transmission .
