Downing Cyclecar Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in Detroit , Michigan in 1913 . In the same year the production of automobiles began. The brand name was initially Downing . Cycle cars and small cars were on offer .

In the summer of 1913 it was announced that a branch called the Downing Motor Car Company was planned in Cleveland , Ohio . Obviously, this plant manufactured from model year 1914. For reasons of differentiation, the vehicles from Detroit were sold as Downing-Detroit and the vehicles from Cleveland as Downing from 1914 .

Production ended in 1915.

The Model A was made in Detroit. It had a two-cylinder engine with 10 hp . A 76.2 mm bore and 107.95 mm stroke resulted in a displacement of 985 cc . The chassis had a wheelbase of 262 cm . A runabout with two seats in a row and a roadster with two seats next to each other have been handed down.

The Model 6 also came from Detroit. The four-cylinder engine developed 18 hp. The wheelbase was 267 cm. In addition to the tandem runabout and roadster, there was a four-seater touring car and a light delivery van .

From Cleveland came the Two with a 12 hp two-cylinder engine and the Four with an 18 hp four-cylinder engine. The wheelbase of 249 cm and the structure as a roadster were identical.
