Sun Motor Car Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in Buffalo , New York , in 1915 . R. Crawford was President and Roscoe C. Hoffman was a Designer. Both previously worked for the Haynes Automobile Company . In 1915 the company moved to Elkhart , Indiana . There, in 1916, the production of automobiles began in the former factory of the Elkhart Motor Car Company . The brand name was Sun . Bankruptcy followed in September 1917 . Automotive Corporation took over the remains.

In December 1915, Sun had ordered 3,500 motors from Beaver Manufacturing Company . That crowd was too optimistic. In 1916 337 vehicles were produced and in the following year 696. In total, that's 1033. Another source names 1063 vehicles.

The vehicles had a six-cylinder engine . It was rated at 23 hp . Sun stated an engine output of 50 hp. The chassis had a 295 cm wheelbase . There was a choice of touring cars with five and seven seats, a sedan with five seats and a roadster with four seats.
