Daimler Manufacturing Company , previously Daimler Motor Company , was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

William Steinway founded the company on September 29, 1888 in Long Island City , New York City . In a factory in Hartford , Connecticut , he manufactured engines under license from the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft . After his death in 1896, the name was changed to Daimler Manufacturing Company . In addition to engines, there were also some commercial vehicles . In 1905 the production of automobiles began under a license from Daimler. The brand name was American Mercedes . In February 1907 a fire destroyed the plant. Vehicle production then ended. One source thinks that fewer than 100 vehicles were made. In 1913 the company was dissolved.

The only model was the 45 HP . It had a four-cylinder engine with a 120 mm bore , 150 mm stroke , 6785 cm³ displacement and 45  hp . The wheelbase was 323 cm. A touring car with seven seats was initially the only body shape. In 1907 a seven-seater demi limousine was added to the range.
