Liberty Motor Car Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in Detroit , Michigan in February 1916 . Percy Owen as President, RE Cole as Engineer and HM Wirth as Sales Manager previously worked for Saxon Motor Car Corporation . Vice President was James F. Bourquin, who previously worked for Paige-Detroit Motor Car Company and Chalmers Motor Car Company . Automobile production began in the summer of 1916. The brand name was Liberty . Initially, manufacturing took place in the former RCH Company's Detroit facility . With the sales success, the move to a newer and larger plant became necessary. That is where the financial problems begin. Bankruptcy began in January 1923 . Plans for reorganization failed. In September 1923, Columbia Motors Company took over everything. Some vehicles were still assembled by hand in 1924.

There was no association with the Liberty Motor Company , which used the same brand name in 1914.

All vehicles had a six-cylinder engine . Initially, the Continental Motors Company supplied the engines with 3730 cc displacement . From 1921 a separate engine with 3770 cm³ displacement was used.

In 1919 there were again only changes to the bodywork. Touring cars with five seats, roadsters with two seats, sports touring cars with four seats, touring sedans, brougham and coupé were available.
