Company history

Southern Motor Manufacturing Association stock dated April 20, 1921

The company was founded in 1920 in Houston , Texas . Jacques E. Blevins, EF Reid and CE Shively were involved. Automobile production was announced on September 26, 1920. The brand name was Ranger . In 1922 there was a bankruptcy , whereupon a merger with the National Motors Corporation was announced. Production ended in 1922 or 1923. In 1924 the company was dissolved. In the same year, 14 people were charged with fraud by the company and National Motors Corporation . Overall, only a few vehicles were built, one of which still exists.

There was no association with the Ranger Automobile Company , which had been using the same brand name a few years earlier.

vehicles

One model was the Four . It had a self-made four-cylinder engine with an L-head and 31 hp . The chassis had a 295 cm wheelbase . The vehicle cost $ 1,595 as a roadster and $ 1,850 as a touring car .

A six is also mentioned. The engine output was specified with 57 hp. The wheelbase was 312 cm. But it is questionable whether it was actually built. The original price was given as $ 3,550.

In 1923 a new four was announced. It was supposed to have a four-cylinder engine from Supreme Motors Corporation . Here, too, it is unclear whether more than one prototype was created.
