New York Six

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

New York Six was an American automobile brand.

Brand history

Villor P. Williams had developed a special device for automobiles . He intended to manufacture his own vehicles with this device. First he founded New York Motors in Moline , Illinois . Parkmobile Corporation in Baltimore , Maryland followed a few months later . Shortly thereafter, New York Motors was taken over by the Automotive Corporation of America . As a result, there were plans to use the MP Moller Motor Car Company's plant in Hagerstown , Maryland, but they failed. In February 1928, Williams bought the George W. Davis Motor Car Company in Richmond , Indiana . Automobile production began in his plant. The brand name was New York Six . Production ended in 1928 or 1929. In total, only a few vehicles were built. A second source states that the headquarters were in Baltimore until the end.

Products

The special feature was a device that made parking much easier. It consisted of two small wheels each underneath the front and rear axles, which had no contact with the ground when the vehicle was being driven. They could be extended hydraulically so that the other wheels lost contact with the ground. This enabled the vehicles to be moved sideways into parking spaces. This was highlighted in advertising. No other advantages were mentioned when changing tires or working on the underside of the vehicle.

The first vehicle was based on a Velie .

Series production was based on models from Davis. Most had a six-cylinder engine . An eight-cylinder engine is also mentioned.
