history

In 1909, the Crow Motor Car Company , founded by EC Crow and his son Martin E. Crow , began producing automobiles, initially only for sales companies that then sold the cars under their own names, such as Black or later Bush . For the former, the Black Crow was created in 1909/1910 , a roadster with a four-cylinder in-line engine and 25–40 bhp (18.4–29 kW).

In 1911 the production of own vehicles began under the name Crow , from 1912 under Crow-Elkhart . These were four-cylinder models with a wide variety of bodies. The engines came from Rutenber , Lycoming , Herschell-Spillman and others. Six-cylinder models were also offered from 1913.

In 1916 the company was renamed Crow-Elkhart Motor Company . 30 automobiles could be produced per day, 1917 was the company's best year with 3,800 vehicles built. In 1918 a bankruptcy petition was filed for the first time because the company had run into economic difficulties. The Crows left the company and JA Harps took over management of the company. In 1921 emissions were only 600 vehicles. At the beginning of 1922 bankruptcy had to be filed again and in June 1923 the company was finally liquidated. Individual Crow-Elkhart automobiles were subsequently assembled from leftover parts; the last ones did not leave production until 1925.
