Trumbull Motor Car
The Trumbull Motor Car Company was an American automobile manufacturer in Bridgeport (Connecticut) .
description
The company was founded in 1914 by the brothers Alexander H. and Isaac B. Trumbull and built small cars until 1915 . The cars were designed by Harry J. Stoops under the aegis of the American Cyclecar Company in Detroit, Michigan . In January 1914, the Trumbull brothers took over the construction company.
The vehicle was called a cycle car. However, it did not meet the criteria. The Trumbull was one of the most comfortable cars of its kind in the United States. Its chassis had a wheelbase of 2032 mm and a track width of 1118 mm. It was available as a two-seater roadster with a convertible top for US $ 425 or a two-seater coupé for US $ 600 . The car was powered by a water-cooled four - cylinder in - line engine that was supplied by the Hermann Engineering Company and made 14/18 hp (13.2 kW). A cylinder bore of 73.025 mm and a piston stroke of 101.6 mm resulted in a displacement of 1702 cm³ . The capacity limit for cycle cars was 1100 cc. The engine power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a friction gear (from 1915 a three-speed spur gear) and a cardan shaft.
A total of around 2000 copies were made, half of which were left-hand drive and the other half right-hand drive. About 1500 of these were exported to Europe and Australia. Another source states that over 2000 vehicles were exported.
Isaac Trumbull and 20 of his wagons were en route to Great Britain on May 7, 1915 with the Lusitania to sign a contract for an additional 300 vehicles when the ship was torpedoed by the German Navy. With the death of Trumbull, the Trumbull Motor Car Company also stopped its activities.
