Columbia Carriage Company was an American manufacturer of vehicles .

Company history

The company was founded in Hamilton , Ohio in 1891 to manufacture horse-drawn carriages . In 1908, Thomas L. Curley was President, JE Wright Vice President, and Robert Kennedy was Secretary and Treasurer. In October 1908 the first prototype of a passenger car was ready. Series production began in January 1909. The brand name was Columbia Motor Buggy , unofficially also Hamilton . 25 motor vehicles were built by August 1909. After that, production was again limited to carriages. In 1912 the company was dissolved. In 1913, a flood of the Great Miami River destroyed large parts of the building.

There were other US manufacturers of Columbia vehicles : Columbia Automobile Company , Columbia Engineering Works , Columbian Electric Vehicle Company, and Columbia Motors Company .

The only model was a high wheeler . A water-cooled two - cylinder engine with 16 HP power drove the rear axle via a planetary gear . The chassis had a wheelbase of 218 cm .
