Craig-Toledo Motor Company , previously Maumee Motor Car Works , was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Frank M. Blair, JG Swindeman and WK Terry founded the Maumee Motor Car Works in Toledo , Ohio in 1906 . On March 1, 1906, their first prototype was ready, which was extensively tested. In May 1906, the factory was Wolverine Car & Commercial Vehicle Company in Dundee in Michigan adopted. A prototype was presented as Maumee at the Grand Central Palace Automobile Show in New York City in January 1907 . The company was renamed Craig-Toledo Motor Company and the brand name changed to Craig-Toledo when George L. Craig and John F. Craig joined the company. The production of automobiles now started in a factory in Toledo. 100 vehicles were planned annually. After six months the bankruptcy came . Overall, fewer vehicles were built than planned.

The goal was to produce the best possible three-seater for the rough roads of America. The vehicles were driven by a four-cylinder engine with 40 hp . The maximum speed was given as 104 km / h.
