Steel Swallow Automobile Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Lee Alderdyce, William F. Bellows, Louis F. Boos, David Dearing and JC Richardson founded the company in August 1906. The company was based in Jackson , Michigan . In 1907 the production of automobiles based on Dearing's patents began. The brand name was Steel Swallow . Production ended in 1908.

The vehicles were high wheelers . With their big wheels, they were well suited for the bad roads of the time. What all models had in common was the air-cooled two-cylinder engine , which was mounted under a bonnet at the front . It drove the rear axle via a friction gear and two chains. It had 104.775 mm bore and stroke , which resulted in a displacement of 1807 cm³ . The engine developed 8 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 213 cm .

The first model was an open runabout . The original price was 700 US dollars . A light delivery van was added in March 1908 . The last model to appear in September 1908 was the Special RFD for mail transport.
