Vehicle Equipment Company was an American manufacturer of motor vehicles .

Company history

Arthur H. Havemeyer, Hector H. Havemeyer and Robert Lloyd founded the company in December 1900. The headquarters were initially in Brooklyn , a district of New York City . In 1901 the production of automobiles began . The brand name was VE . The sales ran for the time being through John T. Rainier, until 1905 he founded the Rainier Motor Car Company . On July 5, 1904, a fire destroyed the plant.

The company then moved to Long Island City . Production there continued from 1905. In March 1906 it went bankrupt .

The General Vehicle Company became the successor company.

Only electric cars were on offer . The passenger cars had cardan drive . They were available as Brougham , Victoria , Hansom, and Landaulet .

Commercial vehicles were far more important . This included omnibuses for sightseeing and trucks .
