Holtzer-Cabot Electric Company was an American company of electrical engineering .
Company history
Charles W. Holtzer came from Karlsruhe . In 1875 he founded the Holtzer Company . The seat was in Brookline , Massachusetts . Between 1880 and 1889 the company name was Seth W. Fuller & Holtzer when Seth W. Fuller became his partner. George E. Cabot joined in 1888. The company name changed to Fuller, Holtzer & Company . In 1889 Fuller got out. The now chosen company name, Holtzer-Cabot Electric Company , remained in existence for decades.
The company was active in the field of electrical engineering. A telephone line was operated as early as 1880.
Two automobiles were built between 1892 and 1895 . The brand name was Holtzer-Cabot . In both cases the buyer was Fiske Warren.
In 1911 a fire destroyed the plant. In 1915 the company moved to Jamaica Plain , a borough of Boston .
Holtzer died in 1927.
In 1972 the company was dissolved.

Both vehicles were electric cars .
The first vehicle was built in 1892. One source states that it was 1891, different from this. The electric motor developed 5 hp . Many parts came from London . The open body offered space for four or eight people, depending on the source. Noteworthy was the use of a steering wheel , possibly the first in automotive history.
The second vehicle was made in 1895. The engine developed 7.5 hp. Chauncey Thomas & Company manufactured the body, which was designed for six to seven people. The curb weight was given as 2313 kg. The maximum speed was 24 km / h.
