Manhattan Automobile Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

James A. Hands, Arthur B. Paine and J. Overton Paine founded the company in late 1900. The seat was in New York City . They wanted to build electric cars and operate bus routes with electric buses . In fact, some electric cars were built in 1901. The brand name was Manhattan .

Bankruptcy began in October 1901 .

The electric cars were bodied as runabouts . They were similar to the models of the Baker Motor Vehicle Company . The original price was 1,200 US dollars .

There were also experiments with steam cars .
