Company history

John Einig was a marine engineer in Jacksonville , Florida . In 1896 he manufactured at least two steam cars, which he also sold. The brand name was Einig , possibly with the addition of Steam . After 1896, the company loses its track. Einig died in 1912.

vehicles

The vehicles had strikingly large wheels and a short wheelbase . They were powered by a steam engine . The use of petrol was unusual . The consumption was given as 1.5 quart per hour. That is about 1.7 liters. It was emphasized that the escaping steam was almost invisible and the noise was strongly muffled so that horses did not shy away. Still, it was difficult to get an operating permit.

A lengthy report in the Scientific American journal generated some inquiries. The first vehicle was sold to a reader of the magazine in England and is considered to be one of the first exported motor vehicles to the USA.

A second vehicle was sold to New York. When problems arose, Einig took the vehicle back. He redesigned it and sold it to two local plumbers named Koons and Golder, who converted it into a truck .
