Columbia Engineering Works was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in Brooklyn , New York in 1901 . The production of automobiles began. Initially, Arthur J. Herschmann was the client. The brand name was therefore Herschmann . Because no more orders came from Herschmann after 1903, the company developed its own model. This was marketed as Columbia from 1904 to 1905 . In August 1905 an automobile magazine reported the end of production.

There were other US manufacturers of Columbia vehicles : Columbia Automobile Company , Columbian Electric Vehicle Company , Columbia Motors Company, and Columbia Carriage Company .

The vehicles were steam cars . Most of them were commercial vehicles . In addition, one or two passenger cars were built .

The steam cars were offered as passenger cars and as commercial vehicles.
