Phelps Motor Vehicle Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

LJ Phelps founded the company in February 1903. The company was based in Stoneham , Massachusetts . He started with the production of automobiles. The brand name was Phelps . In 1905 the plans amounted to 125 vehicles. In September 1905 Phelps withdrew.

The Courier Motor Company took over the company.

The series vehicles had a self-made three-cylinder engine . In 1903 the engine developed 15 hp . The wheelbase was 198 cm. The vehicles were bodied as touring cars with five seats.

In 1904 the engine output was increased to 20 hp and the wheelbase was extended to 213 cm. The body shape did not change.

In 1905 the engine developed 24 hp. The wheelbase was now 269 cm. Furthermore, there was only one five-seater touring car. In addition, this year some vehicles with a four-cylinder engine were made to customer orders for $ 4,000 .
