Curtiss Motor Car Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

prehistory

Glenn Curtiss had already made a flying car in Garden City , New York , in 1917 . The engine came from his Curtiss Airplane and Motor Company . The vehicle was exhibited at the New York Pan American Aeronautic Exposition in February 1917 . It is known to be roadworthy. It is doubtful that it could fly.

Company history

In 1920 Curtiss founded a separate automobile production company. The seat was in Hammondsport in the same state. The production of automobiles began. The brand name was Curtiss . Production ended in 1921. In total, only a few vehicles were built.

Miles Carpenter was the designer of the vehicles. He used a chassis from the Phianna Motors Company , which he redesigned. An aircraft engine of the type Curtiss OX-5 powered vehicles. Charlie Kirkham adapted the V8 engine with 100 hp for road use. A construction as a two-seater roadster with an emergency seat has been handed down. There are also drawings of a touring car .
