Howard Automobile Company , previously Trojan Launch & Automobile Works , was an American manufacturer of automobiles and engines from the state of New York .

Company history

William S. Howard experimented on automobiles and completed the first prototype in 1895 . Series production began in 1901. First the Grant-Ferris Company made the vehicles for him. In the same year he founded Trojan Launch & Automobile Works in Troy . In addition to automobiles, he also manufactured engines. The brand name was Howard . In 1903 a model from the short-lived Trojan brand was added.

In 1903 the name was changed to Howard Automobile Company and the move to Yonkers . The Trojan has been abandoned.

In November 1904, Charles L. Seabury took over the company. The seat was now in Morris Heights in the Bronx . Budd G. Gray revised a model by Howard. The brand name changed to Seabury .

Production ended in 1905. Howard then moved to the Gas Engine & Power Company .

Other American manufacturers of Howard-brand passenger cars were: Howard Automobile Company of New Jersey , Howard Motor Works , Howard Automobile Company of Michigan , Central Car Company , A. Howard Company and Howard Motors Corporation .

Brand name Howard

The only model from 1901 to 1902 had a single-cylinder engine with 5 hp . The vehicles were bodied as an open runabout .

From 1903 to 1904 there were four different models in the range. No. 1 had a two-cylinder engine with 8 hp and a chassis with a 213 cm wheelbase . Superstructures were runabout and tonneau . No. 2 was a delivery truck on the same chassis, the engine power of which was increased to 12 hp. No. 3 had a three-cylinder engine with 12 hp, a chassis of the same length and a touring car body . No. 4 was the top model. It had a four-cylinder engine with 24 hp. There was a choice of touring cars with 229 cm wheelbase, coupé with 244 cm wheelbase and tonneau with 267 cm wheelbase.

Brand name Trojan

The 1903 Trojan had a two-cylinder engine. It was bodied as a runabout.

Brand name Seabury

The Seabury was based on the Howard No. 4 tonneau . There were no differences in terms of engine, engine power and wheelbase. The tonneau offered space for five people.
