CP Kimball Company , previously CP Kimball & Company , was an American manufacturer of carriages , car bodies and automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in Portland , Maine in 1847 . At first it made carriages. In 1877 the company was renamed and moved to Chicago , Illinois . The production of car bodies and automobiles began around 1900. The brand name was Kimball . Only between 1910 and 1912 were the vehicles officially offered. In the period before and in 1913, they were only made to customer orders.

In 1929 the company was dissolved.

Electric cars were on offer . One source gives 10 HP engine power for the electric motors , power transmission via two chains to the rear axle, a range of 120 to 160 km, solid rubber tires and steering using a steering wheel .

There were three models between 1910 and 1912. Model E-7 and Model E-8 had a wheelbase of 183 cm . The first was an Extension Coupe and the second was a Victoria Phaeton . The F-10 model had a 254 cm wheelbase chassis and was bodied as a landaulet .

In 1912 there was George IV as a Phaeton and Special Design as a coupé. Both models had a wheelbase of 208 cm.
