Pan-American Motor Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in Mamaroneck , New York , in 1902 . Several well-known Wall Street financiers were involved . Mentioned are Albert C. Bostwick, George F. Chamberlin, AWS Cochrane, John H. Flagler, V. Everitt Macy, Sidney Dillon Ripley, Winthrop E. Scarritt and J. Dunbar Wright. Bostwick was the driving force behind the company. James E. Woodbridge was the general manager and William M. Power was a technical engineer. In 1902 the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Panam . In January 1903 the plant of the Automobile Company of America was taken over and the equipment was brought into its own plant. Production ended in 1903. The Commercial Motor Company of New Jersey took over the plants.

A total of around 25 vehicles were built.

In 1902 there were only prototypes . They had an engine with unusual valve timing that didn't work.

In 1903 two models with ordinary four-cylinder engines appeared . Both had a leather cone clutch, a three-speed gearbox and power transmission via two chains to the rear axle. The Model B had a motor having 25 horsepower output and a chassis with 244 cm wheelbase . The 15 hp Model C had a wheelbase of 213 cm.
