Signal Electric Manufacturing Company , previously the Menominee Electric Company , was an American company.

Company history

Henry Tideman founded the Menominee Electric Company in Menominee , Michigan , in 1892 . He made fans . There were also electric motors , telephones and other electrical devices. In 1902 the first prototype of an automobile was made . Tests with a motorized vehicle for children followed in 1912.

From 1913 Tideman gained experience in automotive engineering when his second company, the Dudly Tool Company , made the Dudly Bug . Between July 1915 and the end of 1915, his main company also produced a number of passenger cars . The brand name was Menominee . 150 vehicles were planned. The actual number stayed lower.

In 1919 the name was changed to Signal Electric Manufacturing Company . The company was bought out in the 1960s. Another source specifies precisely 1964 for this.

All vehicles, i.e. the prototypes and the series vehicles, were electric cars . The production model had a chassis with a 274 cm wheelbase and a two-seater convertible body . The stated top speed was 32 km / h and the range was 96 km . The new price was 1250 US dollars including a charging station for the batteries .
