Smith Automobile and Machine Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The brothers Alonzo F. and R. Stanley Smith ran a mechanical workshop at the beginning of the 20th century. Its headquarters were on Santa Fe Avenue in Los Angeles , California . There is evidence that they were already active there in 1900. However, one source states that, according to the city's records, they did not reside there until 1905. They offered passenger cars from 1900 to 1907 and trucks until 1908. The brand name was Smith . After that they were still working as a car dealership and garage. In 1911 the company was dissolved.

A car still exists. The year of construction is estimated at 1900, but could also be a little younger. An air-cooled two - cylinder boxer engine provides the drive. It drives the rear axle via two belts. The carburetor comes from Tillotson . The body is open. The small runabout offers space for two people. It is steered with a steering lever.
