Monitor Automobile Works was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was initially based in Chicago , Illinois . William Westerlund and JE Norling ran it. J. Frank Waters was general manager and designer. In 1909 the production of passenger cars began . The brand name was Monitor . In late 1910, the company moved to Janesville , Wisconsin . Commercial vehicles were added in 1911 . In the same year, the car production ended. Trucks were built until 1916.

There was no association with the Monitor Motor Car Company , which used the same brand name.

The only passenger car model was the Model B . It was a high wheeler with big wheels. The engine was mounted under the seat. Even so, there was a hood at the front that looked like a hood . The two-cylinder engine was specified with 18/20 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 218 cm . In 1909 only Stanhope and Runabout were available .

In 1910 a four-seater Surrey was added, the rear seats of which could be removed for transporting goods. One of these vehicles achieved great success in a commercial vehicle competition when it covered 40 miles in three hours, while the runner-up took 45 minutes longer.

In 1911 there was only this multi-purpose vehicle, now called the Dual Purpose Car .
