Otto Gas Engine Works was an American manufacturer of engines and automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded on July 5, 1894 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania . At first it made engines. In 1910 the production of automobiles began. The brand name was initially Otto and from 1912 Ottomobile . The first sales company Otto Motor Car Company from New York City had to be dissolved in April 1911. This was followed by the Ottomobile Company from Mount Holly Township , New Jersey , which went bankrupt in the summer of 1912. The company pointed out that there were no direct links. Nevertheless, it had a negative effect on sales. At that time, Murrell Dobbins was running the company. He stated that the vehicles would now be sold directly to dealers. There were plans for a factory in Mount Holly, and evidence, according to a source, that some vehicles were made there in 1912.

At the end of 1912, vehicle production came to a standstill. The Holly Motor Company continued vehicle production.

Engines that have survived from the period 1894 to 1924 are known. Then the track of the company is lost.
