Whitney Machine Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

RS Whitney ran a mechanical workshop in Lisbon Falls , Maine , in 1898 . He started working on his first vehicle.

In 1899 he moved to Brunswick , Maine, and started the company there. In the same year he completed the first vehicle. The brand name was Whitney . Other vehicles followed. Vehicle production ended in 1905.

Other American manufacturers of passenger cars of this brand were Whitney Motor Wagon Company and Whitney Automobile Company .

Only steam cars were on offer . The first vehicle, built from 1898 to 1899, was bought by a Greenville resident . It was a two-seat runabout .

The second vehicle was built between 1900 and 1902 and was sold to a Brunswick resident. The open body as a touring car offered space for four people.

The third vehicle was started in 1903 and completed in 1905. Jay Potter from Camden bought it. An illustration shows a runabout.
