William T. Terwilliger & Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The Terwilliger brothers experimented on steam cars from 1897 . In 1902 they founded the company in Amsterdam , New York State . It was not until 1904 that the production and marketing of automobiles began. The brand name was Empire , possibly with the addition of Steam . Production ended in the same year.

There was no association with Sterling Automobile & Engine Company and Empire Automobile Company , which also marketed vehicles as Empire .

A steam engine with two cylinders was mounted in the stern. It made 15 hp . The steam boiler was under the front bench. The chassis had a 221 cm wheelbase . The structure was a five-seat tonneau with a rear door. The original price was 2000 US dollars .
