Shepherd Auto-Engine Company was an American manufacturer of engines and automobiles .

Company history

Robert C. Shepherd had been making marine engines for a number of years. On July 16, 1903, he founded the new company together with Ross R. Forster, JR Newberry, JE Ward, Russell J. Waters and KC Wells. The seat was in Los Angeles , California . At first, engines were created. Automobiles were added in December 1903. The brand name was Shepmobile . Production of this passenger car ended in April 1904 . Now commercial vehicles were manufactured.

In 1905, Shepherd and Waters left the company. John R. Newberry became the new president. A few more cars were manufactured under his leadership that year. In the same year the company was dissolved.

The cars from 1903 to 1904 had a single-cylinder engine . He made 7 hp . The setup was an open runabout . A tonneau behind the front seats for additional passengers could be fitted and removed. The bonnet is written that it was curved like many French models.

The commercial vehicles from 1904 onwards were delivery vans . They too had a gasoline engine . The order was for 50 vehicles.

Nothing is known about the cars from 1905.
