Holt Manufacturing Company , previously Stockton Wheel Service , was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Benjamin Holt founded Stockton Wheel Service in Stockton , California in 1883 . He made agricultural implements. In 1892 the name was changed to the Holt Manufacturing Company .

Later came the construction of tractors .

In 1899 a single passenger car was created , which was called Holt .

1925 did the merger with the CL Best Gas Traction Company to Caterpillar .

Car

Pliny E. Holt, Benjamin Holt's nephew , had acquired knowledge of engines at the university. He was the driving force behind the project. The only prototype had a gasoline engine . The open vehicle was bodied as a runabout with two seats.
