American Electric Vehicle Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in Chicago , Illinois in 1896 . In that year the production of automobiles began. The brand name was American Electric . In 1896 the mail order company Montgomery Ward ordered two vehicles which they used for advertising purposes. Until 1899 there was a collaboration with the Elgin Sewing Machine and Bicycle Company . In 1900 the company moved to New York City under the direction of J. Herbert Ballantine and had a plant in Hoboken , New Jersey . Bankruptcy began in October 1902 . In November 1902 the company was sold.

Only electric cars were on offer . An electric motor drove the vehicles. From 1896 to 1899 there were two and four-seat runabouts . For the period from 1900 to 1902, 21 different structures are named. Are Narrated Road Buggy , Stanhope , Golf Trap , Surrey , Brake four and six seats, Victoria , Brougham with four and six seats, Hansom , bus with eight seats, Emergency and Light Delivery as a commercial vehicle .
