Company history
Bainbridge L. Ryder operated the Ryder Electro Motor Company until 1900 . In October 1900, he founded the new company in California with Henry J. Whittemore, Michael J. Kirwin, Charles E. Hancock, Sherwood Bird and Norton C. Hulse . In the same year the production of automobiles began. The brand name was initially California . In 1902 the management changed significantly. In addition to Ryder, AE Ruddell, William Corbin, Joseph G. Crawford and ER Harper were directors. The vehicles were now marketed as Calimobile . A fire on May 13, 1903 destroyed the plant. Then production ended.
There were no affiliations with any of the other California- branded vehicle manufacturers : California Motor Company , California Automobile Company, and California Motors .
vehicles
Brand name California
A small runabout with an air-cooled engine was the evolution of a model from Ryder . One model was very similar to a Henriod et Cie model , although it remains unclear whether there was a license agreement . A motor, also air-cooled, was mounted under the seat and drove the rear axle via a chain. Was steered with a steering lever.
In addition, electric cars and steam cars are mentioned.
Brand name Calimobile
The only models were steam cars. There were runabouts, four-seat touring cars and nine- seat vehicles. The Palace Hotel in San Francisco bought two touring cars. Three vehicles were created from the nine-seater.
