Wolverine Auto & Commercial Vehicle Company , previously Reid Manufacturing Company and Wolverine Automobile Company , was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The Reid Manufacturing Company was in Detroit in Michigan founded. The aim was to manufacture bookshelves , showcases , refrigerators , shop fittings and automobiles. It is unclear whether the first four products mentioned were actually manufactured. Walter L. Marr designed a prototype at the end of 1903 . In early 1904 he was fired and moved to Buick . Gilbert R. Albaugh, who had experience with Oldsmobile , Thomas B. Jeffery Company , Peerless Motor Car Corporation and Star Automobile Company , was hired as the new chief engineer. In 1904 the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Wolverine .

In 1905 the name was changed to Wolverine Automobile Company and the company moved to Dundee , also in Michigan. Shortly after, the name was Wolverine Auto & Commercial Vehicle Company .

Vehicle production ended in 1906.

Wolverine Motors and Wolverine later used the same brand name.

All vehicles had a front engine and cardan drive to the rear axle.

From 1904 to 1905 there were two models in the range. The Model C had a four-cylinder engine with 15 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 208 cm . The Model D , on the other hand, had a two-cylinder engine , which was specified with 26/20 hp, and 224 cm wheelbase. Another source states 18/20 hp. Both were built as open touring cars with five seats.

New models appeared in 1906. The Model E had a 40-horsepower four-cylinder engine and 224 cm wheelbase. The structure was a touring car. The Model F was powered by a two-cylinder engine with 18 hp. The wheelbase and structure were identical. The Model G was smaller. Its two-cylinder engine developed 10 hp. The wheelbase was 183 cm. A runabout was the only available body shape.
