Modoc Motor Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The mail order company Montgomery Ward had plans in 1912 to enter the automobile business. In the same year, the Modoc Motor Company was founded in Chicago Heights , Illinois . The production of automobiles began. The brand name was Modoc , named after the Modoc Indian tribe . The lack of a workshop network turned out to be a disadvantage. Production ended in 1914. On November 27, 1914, the company was dissolved.

Only one model was on offer. It had a four-cylinder engine from the Continental Motors Company . It was specified with 30/40 hp . Many other parts such as the frame, clutch, gearbox, steering and carburetor were also purchased. The structure was a touring car with five seats. The original price was initially 1250 US dollars and last year only 800 dollars.
