Economycar Co. was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in Providence , Rhode Island in 1914 to manufacture automobiles. The brand name was Economycar . The designer was Charles A. Trask, who previously worked for the Cartercar Company . The sales company International Cyclecar Company was based on Broadway in New York City . Production ended in 1914.

Plans totaled 6,000 vehicles to be produced in the first year. In fact, significantly fewer vehicles were built. Nevertheless, it was one of the more successful vehicles in its class on the market.

The only model was called a cycle car, but it did not meet the criteria. It weighed 181 kg. The open body offered space for two people in a row. The wheelbase was 264 cm. The air-cooled V2 engine had 88.9 mm bore , 93.2 mm stroke and 1157 cm³ displacement . It made 9 hp . The original price was 385 US dollars . For comparison: the same year the Ford Model T cost $ 440 in the cheapest version as a two-seater roadster .

The model was also available as a small utility vehicle for $ 400.
