Herreshoff Manufacturing Company was an American manufacturer of ships .

Company history

The brothers John Brown and Nathanael Greene Herreshoff founded the company in 1878. The seat was in Bristol , Rhode Island . They made boats and ships. At the end of 1916 and 1917, some automobiles were also made . The brand name was Novara .

RF Haffenreffer took over the company in 1924. Production ended in 1945. Liquidation followed in 1947 .

The company's boats have won the America's Cup several times .

Automobiles

Sporty vehicles were on offer. They had a four-cylinder engine of Sterling with Overhead valves and 1,969 cc engine capacity . The chassis had a wheelbase of 279 cm . The structure was an open roadster with two seats. The maximum speed was given as 112 km / h. The spare wheel was placed almost horizontally at the rear and also served as a bumper . The original price was 2750 US dollars . A total of three vehicles were built.
