S & M Motor Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Edward E. Stroebel and Walter C. Martin founded the company in Detroit , Michigan in 1912 . They employed RC Aland as a designer. The production of automobiles had been announced already in September 1912 but did not start until 1913. The brand name was S & M . Production ended in the same year. Bankruptcy followed in January 1914 . A total of around 40 vehicles were built.

George Benham took over the remains of the company in 1914 and founded the Benham Manufacturing Company .

Only the model 48 was on offer . It had a six-cylinder engine from the Continental Motors Company . 95.25 mm bore and 133.35 mm stroke resulted in a displacement of 5701 cm³ . The engine output was specified with 48 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 330 cm . There was a choice of five- and seven-seater touring cars , two- and four-seater roadsters and a seven-seater sedan .
