Company history
Colcord Upton left Beverly Manufacturing Company in the summer of 1903 . He then founded the Upton Gear Company in New York City to manufacture gearboxes. He came into contact with Milton H. Schnader from the Keystone Manufacturing Company . On December 30, 1904, the two founded the Upton Motor Company in Lebanon , Pennsylvania . In 1905 the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Upton . Seven vehicles had been built by August 1905. Then the name was changed to Lebanon Motor Works , whereupon the share capital was increased from 5,000 to 200,000 US dollars . A further eight vehicles were manufactured in the same year. In January 1906 the plant was closed for a few days until a shareholder invested further capital. In 1906 33 vehicles were sold.
At the beginning of 1907, a smaller model with the brand name Riviera , which Schnader had designed, came onto the market. Hopes for a contract to manufacture 700 taxis for New York City were not fulfilled. Production ended in 1907.
There was no association with the Upton Automobile Company , which used the same brand name in 1914.
