Storms Electric Car Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The idea and name was provided by William E. Storms, who previously worked for the Colonial Electric Car Company and the Anderson Electric Car Company . In 1915 he founded the company in Detroit , Michigan, together with FT King and Ferdinand H. Zilisch . Another source names William E. Storms as President and Manager, Ferdinand H. Zillisch as Vice President, and Fred T. King as Secretary and Treasurer. Automobile production began at the former Mercury Cyclecar plant . The brand name was Storms . Production ended in the same year.

vehicles

Only electric cars were on offer . They were referred to as cyclecars , although it is unclear whether they met the criteria for cyclecars. The curb weight is not specified. It is questionable whether the weight limit of 350 kg for cycle cars could be kept with the heavy batteries . The electric motor was mounted in the middle of the vehicle and drove the rear axle. The chassis had a 229 cm (90 inch ) wheelbase and 112 cm (44 inch) track . The maximum speed was specified with 29 km / h and the range with 64 to 80 km. There was a choice of a roadster for $ 750 , a coupe for $ 950 and a light delivery van for $ 650.

One illustration shows a roadster with normal sized wheels. In one literature, the tire size is given as 44 inches. It is possible that the tire size was confused with the track width.
