Bendix Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Vincent Hugo Bendix and OM Delauney had already gained experience in automobile construction at the Holsman Automobile Company . In 1907 they founded both the Bendix Company and the Duplex Motor Car Company in Chicago , Illinois . In August 1907, they also acquired the Triumph Motor Car Company , which, however, operated as the manufacturer of Triumph cars until 1912 . In 1908 the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Bendix . In November 1908 the plant was relocated to Logansport , Indiana . In 1909 the production of the Bendix ended . A total of around 7,000 Bendix and Duplex vehicles were built.

Vincent Bendix moved to Ames Corporation and later founded the Bendix Corporation for vehicle parts.

Highwheelers were on offer . A special feature was a self-developed friction gear . Various four-cylinder engines powered the vehicles.

In 1908 there was the Four . Its engine was specified with 20/24 hp . The wheelbase was 262 cm. The choices were No. 4 as Gentleman's Roadster and No. 5 as Surrey .

The following year the Four had a 30 hp engine. The wheelbase was shortened to 259 cm. The superstructures corresponded to the previous year's models.

The Hi-Lo model (for high wheels, low center of gravity) was available from November 1908. Its engine developed 40 hp. The chassis also had a wheelbase of 259 cm. The version No. 9-H was a three-seater roadster and the No. 9-L is a two-seater roadster.
