Monitor Motor Car Company , previously the Cummins-Monitor Company , was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The origin of the Cummins Monitor Company , founded in 1915, lay in the dealership Cummins Auto Sales Company . Charles C. Cummins, ES Cummins, and HP Jeffers ran the Columbus , Ohio-based company . In March 1915 the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Monitor . In December 1916 the name was changed to Monitor Motor Car Company . The bankruptcy began in August 1921 . The engine manufacturer Herschell-Spillman sued because there was a contract for 1,000 engines, but Monitor only paid 42. Production ended in 1922. In January 1922 it went bankrupt . A total of over 5000 vehicles were built.

There was no connection with Monitor Automobile Works , which used the same brand name.

Various bought-in engines from Continental Motors Company , GB&S and Herschell-Spillman powered the vehicles.

In 1915 there was only the Model 4-30 . It had a four-cylinder engine and an output of 30 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 274 cm . There was a choice of a roadster and a five-seater touring car . In 1916 the model was simply called the Four . Otherwise nothing changed. From 1917, no number of seats has been handed down for the touring car. 1918 was his last year.

The Six appeared in 1916 . Its six-cylinder engine developed 55 hp. The wheelbase was 292 cm. It was also available as a touring car and roadster. It remained unchanged until 1919. It was not until 1920 that the wheelbase was extended to 297 cm. Touring cars, sedans and a Tu-or-Four roadster were now available . From 1921, the name was added to the Roadster. This model was over in 1922.

A model with a V8 engine was planned from the start. But it did not go into series production.
