Irving Automobile Company , previously American-Southern Motors Corporation , was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The American-Southern Motors Corporation was established in 1920 in Greensboro in North Carolina established. The field of activity was the assembly of vehicles for the American Motors Corporation and the sale of these vehicles in the southern states of the USA.

In 1921 the company began developing its own automobiles. The brand name was Vaughn , named after the financier Robert G. Vaughn. The first public presentation was in October 1921 on the Made in Carolinas lineup . Series production did not materialize.

In December 1921, the name was changed to Irving Automobile Company . Now the company was operating as a car dealership . In March 1923, the general manager EN Snow announced that the vehicle would soon be marketed. After that there was nothing more to be heard.

It is not known if the company existed after 1923.

A few years ago there was the Whiteside Wheel Company and Vaughn already two other US manufacturers of passenger cars of the brand Vaughn .

The first prototype had a V12 engine from the Weidely Motors Company . It made 90 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 323 cm . The open touring car offered space for five people. It was designed by Hiram M. Browne. The curb weight was given as 2245 kg. The original price should be $ 3995 .

A smaller model was also planned. It was to get a four-cylinder engine from Rochester-Duesenberg .
