Company history
Streator Motor Car Company
LP Halladay bought the Erie Motor Carriage and Manufacturing Company of Anderson , Indiana , in late 1902 . He moved to Streator , Illinois . He was looking for business partners and after a year founded the Streator Motor Car Company in Streator. The first car was built in great secrecy in 1904 and launched in 1905. It was called Halladay . Bankruptcy began on September 23, 1911 .
Barley Manufacturing Company
In January 1913 the company was sold to the Merchants' Realization Company of Chicago . It was then bought by Albert C. Barley, who was secretary at the engine manufacturer Rutenber Motor Company . He carried out the reorganization that resulted in the new name Barley Manufacturing Company . He continued production while keeping the brand name.
In 1916 Barley launched the new Roamer brand in collaboration with Cloyd Y. Kenworthy and Karl H. Martin . Their production took place in the former Michigan Buggy Company plant in Kalamazoo , Michigan . A little later, the company's headquarters were also relocated there.
Barley Motor Car Company
In 1917 the company name changed to Barley Motor Car Company .
That same year, Barley decided to focus entirely on the Roamer. He therefore sold the entire Halladay division to a group of investors who then founded Halladay Motors Corporation and continued production of the Halladay in Ohio .
Between September 1922 and 1924 there was also the Barley brand for smaller vehicles. In addition, Pennant brand taxis were produced between the summer of 1923 and 1925 .
Roamer Motor Car Company
In 1924 Barley sold the company. The new company name was Roamer Motor Car Company . George P. Wigginton was the president. Production ended in 1929.
A total of around 13,000 vehicles were built.
