Steam Vehicle Corporation of America was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in Allentown , Pennsylvania in 1923 . In early 1924, the Stanley Motor Carriage Company was taken over. In the same year the production of automobiles began. The brand name may initially have been Stanley and was later changed to SV in the year . Production ended in 1927. Liquidation followed in 1929 .

Only steam cars were on offer . They had a steam engine with two cylinders . It made 20 hp .

The Stanley Model 740 existed until 1924 . It remains unclear whether they were made by Stanley or by Steam Vehicle Corporation. The chassis had a wheelbase of 330 cm . There was a choice of open touring cars with four, five and seven seats, a roadster , a sedan with seven seats and a utility sedan with five seats.

In model year 1925, a revised model appeared as SV . It was called the Model 252-V . The wheelbase was shortened to 310 cm. The range of bodies was limited to touring cars and sedans, both with five seats. The new price could be reduced.

In 1926 it became the Model 262 . The limousine was omitted.

The Model 770 followed in 1927 . Differences are not known.

Production numbers

102 Stanley have survived for 1924. 86 vehicles were built in 1925. 31 followed in 1926 and 16 in 1927.
