Astra Motors Corporation was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded on December 15, 1919 in St. Louis , Missouri . Behind it was the Associated Motors Corporation from New York City . BR Parrott was president and treasurer, AJ Kessinger secretary, VC Kloepper chief engineer and Andre Mertzanoff designer. The production of automobiles with the brand name Astra began in 1920. There were plans to take over the Dorris Motor Car Company from the same town. However, it was Dorris who took over Astra in late January 1920. In mid-February 1920, finished vehicles were presented at the St. Louis Automobile Show . In March 1920 Dorris announced its intention to continue production, and in June 1920 Dorris announced the opposite. A source says that Dorris only wanted to get rid of a competitor from the same town with the takeover.

A total of five to ten vehicles were built.

vehicles

Only one model was on offer. It consisted of many bought-in parts and therefore did not require a long development time. A four-cylinder engine from the LeRoi Company with 25 hp propelled the vehicles. The wheelbase was 274 cm. One illustration shows a touring car . The vehicles cost $ 1,325 . By comparison, a slightly shorter and weaker Ford Model T was a three-door, five-seater touring car that cost only $ 675 at the time.
