Frontenac

The Frontenac Motor Corporation was a joint US-based company of Louis and Gaston Chevrolet in Indianapolis . Louis returned to the Indanapolis 500 race in 1915 after leaving Chevrolet . He drove a Cornelian for the first year of his new career , but was behind the wheel of a car he had built in 1916.

description

The company was named Frontenac after the governor of the French North American colonies in the 17th century. The Frontenac racing cars achieved considerable success on the racetracks in 1916 and 1917. In the First World War car races were stopped; But then Frontenac was back and could be seen on the racetracks until 1921. Then the Chevrolet brothers withdrew from racing.

In the same year, the designer Cornelius van Ranst joined the company, of which Louis Chevrolet became president. A touring car with a four-cylinder engine was to be built in series, but due to the poor economic situation in the USA, it was only a prototype. In May 1923 the company had to file for bankruptcy. But Chevrolet constructed another touring car with an eight-cylinder engine and hydraulic brakes on all four wheels. But even of this only a prototype was created. In 1925 the Frontenac Motor Corporation was finally dissolved.
